I work with the philipino guys and they told me that being european and travel there you can feel like a king. 
Well, its not like that to be exact, but there is something about that. 
Those girls can see you as a door to the world (mainly because u are european and you probably have a money).
Philipinas are mainly small ladies which are cute but its not my type. It was very easy inside the "regular" club to get in touch with a girl, to buy her a drink, to invite her to a room and to fuck. I have done it twice, as I stayed there for one week. And yes, honestly it was just alcohol, smile and it worked out. During my stay there, I didnt pay for sex as I was a bit younger and I was still willing to dance, drink, flirt a lot   
So, generally its worth to go there as European, because its easy, at least it was 6 years ago, but now Im a bit lazy and I preffer to pay and forget... haha
